I'm posting this picture of a groundhog I saw this afternoon on the ATV trail, because it reminded me of what happened last year at about this time.  In the very same hole last year, for about two weeks, I kept seeing this big groundhog trying to get some sun...then all of a sudden he was gone. One day I was going up the trail and noticed the groundhog had been replaced by 10-12 young foxes. For most of the spring every time I'd go by I'd see at least a couple of pups playing near the entrance to the den, I only saw the mother once and what struck me was that she wasn't very big. She did manage to scare off that big old groundhog so she'd have a place to care for her young ones though. So I'm just wondering how long this groundhog will be in residence. Whether last year's groundhog just got evicted or suffered a worst fate I don't know, I kept seeing groundhogs in the area but couldn't say for sure it was the one who'd originally been living in the den.
