Moose on the loose
These last two days there have been 8 moose/vehicle accidents in Aroostook County and according to the news reports I've seen some resulted in people being taken to the hospital but none have been fatal accidents. At least not for the people involved. We've had a lot of rain lately which means that the black flys have arrived in force, so the moose are trying to get away from them by getting out of the deep woods into fields and roads. I've been out to take pictures the last couple of days and I know exactly how they feel, if I stay on the ATV trails the flys aren't so bad because there's usually a slight breeze, but if you go close to the trees they are thick and nasty. Going into the woods is suicidal, they'll eat you alive. This is also the time of year when young moose are chased away by there mothers because they're about to give birth and don't want the young moose around anymore. These young ones are now on there own and are looking for new homes, so right now you have a lot of moose on the move.
those mama moose sure are smart, sometimes chasing the young away is a great idea. it was a proud moment when my children learned their addresses but then the day comes when you realize that they use it to find their way home! mama mooses are much smarter

Surprising that mother moose can scare them off they're 800-1000 pound kids after all.
